Maps of Sassafras

SassafrasMap2SassafrasMap1Now these maps are simply scans of a brochure, but hopefully they will provide some sense of direction and support for the new land owners.

Can you find you land? Hope so...

Lot 129 Comes Online

image206image205image204

I was shocked last weekend to find that lot 129 was very much in progress. After speaking with Charles (our resident Master Builder) it is my understanding that the Bryant's foundation should be in place within weeks. (click image to enlarge)

Erin does the Donkey Dance

For some reason on a trip back from Sassafras my 4 year old daugther decided that she wanted to hope out and see the baby donkey. Within a few feet of the donkey she decides to become a true "City Girl" and not pet/touch the donkey but instead to stand in the middle of the street and do a "Donkey Dance" as she called it. DSC00886I promise to use this photo as blackmail when she runs for Mayor of Atlanta in 2028! (Click to enlarge the photo)

Bryants Bring Power to Sassafras 2000

DSC00848Henry and Sandra Bryant, of Fayetteville, Ga are complete in bringing power to their lot near the N.C. border of Sassafras. Their efforts to bring power to their lot affords power to 7 other landowners and brings a close to a open pit of over 2 months (Amen to that!). The Bryants plan to build before the years end. More to come how power will reshape that region of our community. (Click on the photo to enlarge)

There is a lot going on at Sassafras!

This weekend we had the pleasure of spending some time on the Mountain and boy was it a wonderful weekend. We stopped in at the Octagon and found 4 new landowners. We will profile them in the coming weeks and there plans to build. More to come very soon...

Camp Reggae Live!

campreggae

I have the say that because of my wrecked ride I did not make it back to Camp Reggae during Memorial Day weekend, but after talking to reliable a source it must have been a great event. I had the good fortune to tour the newly upgraged amphitheater (yes, I said Ampitheater - don't believe me, check the website -http://www.campreggae.com/general.htm).

From the Camp Reggae site:

"The new location is well elevated and offers plenty of tree coverage and beautiful vistas. An international sized stage has been completed in the natural amphitheater & launches Reggae music into the deep forest all weekend long."

I also suggest that you spend some time checking out the photo gallery from Camp Reggae 2003 http://www.campreggae.com/gallery2003-1.htm. I enjoy seeing people enjoy Sassfras (make note self: maybe more landowners should have this much fun at Sassfras?)

Camp Freedom Underway!

image057It was a heart tearing process of watching these locals on a tractor and bulldozer clear a 50 foot by 50 foot area of our five arces. It just the begining and it's a long time coming, After two years of planning, waiting and saving the time has come. Look for more information as the Summer roles on.

This is why we need signage at Sassafras!@#$

image13_std
Ok, I have to admit that it was my fault, but after 2 years driving around Sassafras and pulling one of the developers out a mud bog very near this spot, I had no idea that there was a DITCH here. Well, thank God I was not hurt and there was only $8,945 in damage (thanks progressive).

Black Eden: The Idlewild Community

black_edenFor those of you that may have missed this book, be sure to take at the Amazon listing of Black Eden: The Idlewild Community. The reviews of book are positive and here is to hoping that one day someone will write a book or two about Sassafras. It's my hope that Idlewild and Sassafras might become "Sister Communities" in the near future. Anyone in for a road trip? The Idlewild Jazz and Blues Heritage Festival will be held on July 4th or July 10th - more info to come. Want more information on Idlewild, check out the following stories and check out the link in the African American Resort Community list to the right.
