Yes, I think I do know this first picture in Idlewild. There was a gas station off of the Iland and General store in the '50s and it could of been the post office also before they built the knew one. It also had a gas pump like that one shown for years. The second picture is how I remembered the beach. It still looks pretty much the same today except for the dock is long gone. I was there for the 4th and had so many memories of my days on that very beach on Idlewild Lake. Thank you for sharing the photos.

Hello to everyone in Idlewild I went to school at balwin High school in 1967-1969 I would like to contact some old friends there I have good memories of the skating ring and long nights on the beach and fishing on the lake, is the fire house still on the hill I live right be low there with the dorris's and Saddler if anyone read this and feel thay can tell me more please feel free to write. I have come across a time capsule .I purchased a house that was built in idlewild buy MR.Oliver WILLIAMS.And mrs.rennie Williams.This home was built in 1951.The house is in original condition on the inside .The hard wood floors are good the bath and kitchen are still original even the apliances are still ther and in beautifull shape.It appears 1984 was the last time someone was in the house.I have found all kinds of memourabilia from the 50,s and 60,s,including a 1959 idlewild yearbook in mint condition.If any one has family from 1959 or owned a house ,give me a call and I would be glad to see if they are in this book. kevin 616-437-1322

My father was Earl 'Count' Belcher, and his band played in Idlewild at the various nightclubs, in the 50's and 60's. I remember the Paradise club, but not the others. Also remember the skating rink on the beach. If you have any photos relating to any of these memories, please post.

This is a 1959 yearbook done by K.D.DAVIS aka KENNETH DAVIS of IDLEWILD, MICHIGAN. Folks let me tell you something you are in for a treat!!! This book will help you remember the stories and memories of Idlewild from people who lived there fifty years ago.

This yearbook was written back in 1959 and gives first hand, eye witness accounts of Idlewild when the town was in it's hayday as opposed to many new history books that try to re-tell the story generations later. This yearbook is a journey back in time, a step back when segregation was still going on and blacks were the minority without a
booming "town of their own" so to speak. This yearbook has many famous people listed and in most cases, shows a picture of the property owner, the property itself, the phone number at the time, and a short story describing where the person was from as well as a little information on the person themself or their family.

I think K.D. DAVIS says it best when he wrote, "we offer our biggest effort to capature the scope and spirit of the idlewild we all love". We beleive this may be the only copy of this book and irreplacable history in existance. Our staff has searched searched high and low and have yet to find another copy of this yearbook or anything remotely
close to it.

We believe this book to be a piece of history that can not be replaced The book owner is working on a documentary on what Idlewild was in 1959. And what it is in 2009. fifty years later. We have many interesting photos of the homes featured in this book, from the same spot the picture was originally taken fifty years earlier in 1959. We hope to release the Idlewild documentary in a few months on DVD and ask anybody with information on Idlewild, Michigan to call our office so it may be include in the documentary: 616-589-3252.

Well I seen the yearbook that you are trying to sell for an ungodly price. That is not the only one of it's kind and you should not try and lie and say that it is. No one in their right mind would pay a million dollars for a book like that. Do your research first and then you will see.

No one is jealous about you find of the 1959 yearbook. I tried explaining to you that there are many of those yearbooks floating around, and you will not find anyone who knows anything about the real Idlewild you claim you or your company know so much about for the price you suggest. You are wasting your time. I strongly encourage you to call me back as I mentioned to you over the telephone that I almost own the complete collection of yearbooks and the monthly issues of the Idlewidler's magazine that K.D. Davis published. I have researched this community for 14 years now, and I know about the documentation on the community. Please understand that there are people out here who know far more than you, and you push to sell 1959 yearbook is insulting to the history of the Idlewild Resort community.

I guess we probaly do not want to sell the book or we would not ask so much. What we would like is to find people that had family there and may want to see what there property was like in 1959. As far as other year books I do not believe there are other copys or years out there till I see it with my own eyes. We do not claim to have tons of knowledge of IDLEWILD just what is published in our book.

My grandparents were Dr. and Mrs. Donovan H. Givens, Sr. I went to Idlewild as a child - long, long past its heyday. I would be interested in finding out more (seeing) about any of the yearbooks that are referred to here. My grandparents cottage was Sans Souci.
