While googling the word, "Idlewild, Michigan" I found a 1940's photo of a beach full of brothers and sisters having a great time. Does know this beach? Or the photographer? Is that a brother in a letterman's sweater on the beach - what was he thinking???
The site that host the photo states that the image is part of the Kufta Collection. Any info and thought, click the "Comments" link below and have at it.

Thx,

I would love to see more picutres displayed of the brothers and sisters past in idlewild. I am what some would call an idlewild brat. My family spent every summer in idlewild and now I bring my children and grandchildren to Idlewild and have taught them the Black History that have been conveienly left out of the history books. I have also brought many frineds to Idlewild and who have purchased property. After all if we don't preserve Idlewild who will?. We must never forget the legacy of this beautful place. Idlewild has changed some good some not so good. But we must not give in to the not so good. Idlewild must not be lost stoled or strayed. Hold on to the legacy.

I've actually been to this beach before. It's right across from where the Flamingo was. I live not too far from Idlewild and I am so fascinated by the place, I wish someone would revive the place, its half boarded up and sort of like a ghosttown.

In the mid 1960's, I spent the summer months in Idlewild visiting my dad and stepmother. Their house sat on Lake Idlewild, which is depicted in your picture. I was a young teenager from Chicago and thought Idlewild was the most beautiful, natural habitat I'd ever seen. I fell in love with the absolute beauty and seeing such a variety of animals in their natural environment. It's wonderful! Everytime I'd go and visit, my stay became longer and longer. Having purchased a house there in 1984, I plan to return and buy a summer/vacation house there soon. Thanks for sharing your very unique find. By the way, I remember that building. It's just across the wooden bridge on Idlewild Lake from my dad's house. I used to go there and buy stamps, fishing bait (worms) and cards (birthday, thinking of you, etc.). You could also get the Idlewild Newletter there as well. Fabulous memories.
